Ahmad Yari pays homage to Governor Dauda Lawal in Abuja

Ahmad Abdulaziz Yari met the Governor of Zamfara State, Dr. Dauda Lawal Dare, at his residence in Abuja for a courtesy and homage visit centred on youth development, empowerment and opportunity in Zamfara.

Their closed-door discussion considered how people across the state, particularly young people, can benefit from meaningful programmes. Ahmad attended as an Executive Board Member of the Governing Council of the City Boy Movement, bringing a continuing interest in youth inclusion and community development to the conversation.

Youth development and meaningful opportunity

The discussion placed the prospects of young people in Zamfara at its centre. Development and empowerment were considered alongside access to opportunities: how programmes can reach the people they are intended to serve and give young people a meaningful place in the state's progress.

For Ahmad, the visit connected engagement with the state's leadership to the concerns that also run through his work in community support, sports and grassroots organisation. These activities take different forms, but each involves bringing people into contact with opportunities to participate and contribute.

The conversation with Governor Lawal addressed the wider population of Zamfara as well as its young people. Its emphasis on meaningful programmes placed practical opportunity alongside the broader discussion of development.

Participation, unity and political organisation

Political strategy, youth participation and unity also formed part of the conversation. Ahmad discussed strengthening the All Progressives Congress from Zamfara State to the national level, within a wider engagement on the place of young people in public life.

The visit brought together a courtesy call on the Governor and discussion of issues affecting the state. Youth inclusion was relevant to both: participation in programmes that support development, and participation in the organisations and conversations through which public priorities are shaped.

Ahmad's work with Yari Messengers gives a further setting to that interest. As National Convener, he meets the movement's National Executive on organisational structures, grassroots engagement and coordination across the Northern states. The movement's strategic women's engagement has also focused on participation, unity and collective action.

A connection to Zamfara

Ahmad is from Talata Mafara in Zamfara State. His connection to the state includes visits to community institutions and time with residents, alongside meetings with public figures. During a visit to the General Hospital in Talata Mafara, he and his peers spent time with patients, offered prayers for their recovery and provided comfort and hygiene packages.

He is the son of Senator Abdulaziz Abubakar Yari, a former Governor of Zamfara State who represents Zamfara West in the Senate. That family background provides context for his ties to the state, while his current organisational responsibilities include the City Boy Movement, Yari Messengers and Yari Sport Initiative.

Different responsibilities, a continuing interest in young people

Ahmad serves as Patron of Yari Sport Initiative, which aims to discover young athletes and connect talent with coaching and training. The initiative's sports programmes sit alongside, and remain distinct from, his role in the City Boy Movement and his leadership of Yari Messengers.

Ahmad Abdulaziz Yari Foundation provides a separate focus for empowerment and charitable community support. Together, these areas of work explain the breadth of his interest in opportunity, without placing the organisations under a single structure.

The Abuja meeting was an opportunity to discuss youth development directly with Governor Lawal. Its central concerns were Zamfara's people, meaningful opportunities for young people, and the importance of participation and unity in the state's development and public life.
