About the initiative
The Yari Sport Initiative (YSI) uses sport to bring young people together. Ahmad Yari is its Patron, and Senator Abdul'aziz Abubakar Yari is its Grand Patron.
What it sets out to do
- Carry everyone along, so that young people across communities can take part.
- Build sports centres where athletes can train properly.
- Discover talented athletes who have not yet been seen.
- Connect athletes with coaches and training.
Events
The launch phase names two event pillars: a YSI football tournament and YSI horse racing.
Membership
YSI's membership model includes registration and QR verification at events. Participation updates are shared with the relevant programme announcements.
The initiative and its Patron
YSI is a distinct sports initiative. Ahmad serves as Patron and Senator Abdulaziz Abubakar Yari as Grand Patron. Ahmad Abdulaziz Yari Foundation has a separate charitable remit and does not organise YSI's sports programme.
September engagements
Members of the YSI team met Ahmad at his Abuja office on 6 September to discuss the launch and the Kano horse-racing competition scheduled for 26 and 27 September. Ahmad subsequently arrived in Kano for the initiative's activities.
